Ousted American Idol finalist Ramiele Malubay’s song choices and fashion picks have become regular topics among Idol fanatics here in Manila.
She stopped hitting it really right since singing “You don’t have to say you love me” in both departments (song choices and fashion).
Having interviewed past American Idol contestants, the Manila Bulletin learned that a team picks wardrobe for the finalists thus liberating Malubay from the fashion police. But a recent blog supposedly belonging to Fil-Am contestant revealed that she might not have had the liberty on song choices as well.
Right after Malubay cried on world TV following her elimination last week, sentiments allegedly blogged by Malubay circulated on the internet. She isn’t only unhappy about the results but blamed a “technical Glitch” may have played with her Idol fate and that the show’s insiders weren’t as friendly to the Fil-Am.
Although it has been a fact that Malubay was far beyond consistent in her performances, the statement, if indeed true, revealed a lot about “American Idol”.
On Malubay’s alleged MySpace account, she started, “I’m so sad on what happened but not because of the people’s decision, but what the staff told us. Please do not send me messages until I finish my statement. I am still here in California, by the way please vote for David Cook to be 7th American Idol, I know he will, let’s pray for him, inspirational songs for next week, and I choose Heal our lands but I can not sing that anymore. There’s news from people here in US who were mad, because they were dialing instead of thank you for voting Ramiele, it was thank you for voting other’s name.”
If further read, “Few hours later the result’s night I made a blog that tells everything I know happened on myspace where Mr. Damian Grass of Associated Press used my blog for those racy photos [previously featured on broadsheet]. If you can help me please put on your blog all the things that I said. Chris Daughtry of “American Idol” 5 was disappointed cause of technical problem, and look what happened to Taylor Hicks and Chris. That’s why AI showed some clips about post idol life.”
At first it could have been a simple case of sour-grapping but the blog went on. “[There was a] technical problem. This problem is the same as on the case of Chris Daughtry. Chris was in the final four of the fifth season of American Idol. While with the judge Simon Cowell said he thought Katharine McPhee would be eliminated, the turnout of votes revealed otherwise. When it was announced that Chris was eliminated, he was obviously surprised with the result. The vote-tallying website called DialIdol later on said that they have predicted that Daughtry was the lowest vote-getter of the week. Another reason given was that maybe Daughtry’s fans were overconfident that he would be safe, so they did not call to vote for him.”
Daughtry was thought to be the next Idol during season five. He may have given the title to Taylor Hicks but is band became last year’s biggest rock-alternative group to have emerged in the US.
The blog continued to reveal how Malubay was reportedly being dissuaded with her original song choices. “The staff also arranged the songs and most of the times judges didn’t like it, and they told us about the blocking like when I performed “In My Life” (during Lennon McCartney night) Simon [Cowell] didn’t like the stair drama. In the case of [finalist] Brooke [White], they told Brooke not to use guitar but she insisted it and she done a wonderful job.”
Malubay’s supposed entry also touched the show’s strategy in order to generate ratings. ”The pilot episode’s rating was lower than season 6, and they make some noise, and they won. What noise? The stripper Issue, the racy photos which are not, the myspace video, the album of Carly [Smithson], etc. [Semi-finalist] Josiah Lemming was at “American Idol” because he knows he deserves to be on top 6, cause they pick who would make noise. Davis Archuleta won “Star Search”, Alexandria [Lushington] and David made noise because they were co-semi finalist in that show. Syesha [Mercado] was the one in the US version of star academy.
See! I think what happened to Michael is a *noise* and tell secretly to the left Idols’ fans that NO ONE IS SAFE SO VOTE MORE! And the wallet will be fatter!
