Think of this. Why purposely mention the fact about what the show did after the last Idol Gives Back? I will break it down for you.
1. Who to put in the bottom three that would cause a stir, while having a remote possibility of truth to it?
2. The contestant would have to be one that has a strong fan base and vote history. (Could not work if Little Dave or Big Dave were chosen for the gag.)
3. The chosen contestant could NOT be one that has a track record of low votes and thereby being non controversial as a bottom three placement.
4. Host "rudely" tells contestant that even though we kept all in last year after Idol Gives Back, but not this time - You WILL be going home tonight. It is the end of the road.
What is the aftermath of this joke? Why would FOX do such a thing?
1. AT&T text messages are flying across the world, (my neighbor's daughter can text four friends before I can key in the number to ONE of my friends.) AT&T gets a lot of money from ALL NIGHT text messaging.
2. The drama factor creates a massive onslaught of new memberships on this site. American Idol(dot)Com commands more money from advertisers the higher membership goes.
3. A large , VERY LARGE number of people are OUTRAGED at the hideous comments of host, but deep in their heart; hope the chosen contestant will be resurrected the following week. Now Fox commands even more for advertising air time. Paychecks get fatter, as ratings go up. (Remember the announcement at the beginning regarding the "highest" vote count this season?)
4. All week text messages continue - AT&T gets a fatter wallet.
5. News reports keep the tension up as the days SLOWLY pass until next show. Drama builds higher now! Which does what? Creates an advertisers nightmare! FOX gets a fatter wallet.
6. Air day of next show - chosen contestant is magically brought back. Maybe with some corny "Fox heard you America, we love & care about you so heeeeereeees MICHAEL JOHNS! HE IS STILL A CONTENDER! This, all because we at FOX care about YOU; our faithful viewers and believe as you do, that Michael should have been afforded the same opportunity as last years' contestants. TAKE IT MICHAEL!"
7. Again, text messages, phone calls begin and continue. "Meagan are you watching? He is back, they let Michael come back!"
8. Viewers are now truly appreciative and begin to think Fox, Freemantle & all at Idol really, sincerely care about them. Ratings go up, so does ad pricing.
9. Membership at the official site climbs to a record breaking level - pricing for ad spots on site are now at an all time high as well.
"Money, money, money, money moneeeeee!" A FOX executive is overheard; "Ha ha ha ha ha , I am going to the bank! LMAO! Be back next week!"
IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND THIS WOULD BE A VERY CREATIVE (yet cruel in some ways)METHOD OF INCREASING CASH FLOW FOR A LOT OF CONCERNED ENTITIES. KUDOS FOX! I AM IMPRESSED BY THE CREATIVE GENIUS BEHIND THIS - MAKE SURE SHE OR HE GETS A VERY LARGE SLICE OF THIS PIE! SUCH A PERSON YOU WANT TO KEEP AROUND FOR THE DURATION
