Top 10 Power Rankings: Are the Girls in Trouble?
"The Long and Winding Road" led David Archuleta back to the No. 1 spot in TVGuide.com's American Idol Power Rankings this week, as the lad bounced back from his setback and reminded the audience of his pure pipes. Still in the running, though, is last week's chart-topper, David Cook, who is just five percentage points behind.

Staying put in the No. 3 and 4 slots are Brooke White and Carly Smithson. The rest of the gals, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie for seventh place. Only Chikezie fared worse this week, returning to the cellar with less than one percent of your vote.

Well, this is soo stupid.. people are so hook up on David A..They don't see that Archuleta is NOT the only contender here.. LOVE IS BLIND I mean DEAF

I don't get it. I think he's the best of them all. Some people just hear whatever Simon tells them.

It's a lot of things. Simon's comments, Randy's comments... how they are lit on the show, singing order (especially who goes first and who goes last), judges and producers' comments outside of the show, well placed celebrity and talk show host comments, who gets good pimpage in group sings, video packages (remember Alaina not wanting her food groups to touch as compared to Kristy Lee's full blown horse back riding through the countryside package? Gimme a break! Sooo not fair but that's how AI is.), song selection --clearance issues, Ford ad shoots features, etc.

AI has this down to a science.

Michael has had some pimpage. He has had some good solos in the group sings, good features in the last two Ford ads (I think the directors like him ), he got the really great full blown lighting and camera treatment this week, and the judges were ready to "reward him".

I am hoping that they want to "develop" him over the next few weeks. Just like they did for Jordan last year. But so far, David A and David C have been getting the huge pimpage push.

Let's look at singing order. Through the top 6 last year, singing in the early part of the singing order was dangerous:

Season 6: Boots from the first three performance spots of the show: 13 of 20: 65%

And, in the top 12 of Season 6 thought the top 6, the boots from the first three performance spots of the show: 6 of 8 or 75%, and boots from the first half of performers--7 of 8 or 88%

Anyway, David Cook has had good placement for the last 5 weeks.

Top 24: sang 3rd out of 12 guys--the earliest he has had to sing

Top 20: 9th of 10 guys-- the "near" pimp spot

Top 16: 6th of 8 guys--still good placement

Top 12: 6th of 12--middle of the pack

Top 11: 6th of 11--middle of the pack

Top 10: 10th of 10--the "pimp" spot

Note: has never gone first--will he this coming week?


Michael's placement:

Top 24: 12th of 12 guys --no complaint here, the pimp spot!

Top 20: 1rst out of 10 guys--so Michael has gone first

Top 16: 5th of 8 guys--middle of the pack

Top 12: 10th of 12 --good later placement, too bad the judges did not appreciate ATU

Top 11: 4th of 11--put back into the early singing group

Top 10: 6th of 10 --middle of the pack


Jordin last year:

Top 24: 6th of 12 girls -- middle of the pack

Top 20: 6th of 10 girls --middle of the pack

Top 16: 1rst of 8 girls -- the only time Jordin sang FIRST until there were only 3 contestants left

Top 6: 6th of 6 --pimp spot (#2) --and this is the Idol Gives Back 4 hour voting night --no one is booted but having a pimped inspirational song the week no one leaves and those votes are added to the next week's votes for the double boot--is there any question this is an advantage?

Top 6 (second week of Top 6): 2nd of 6 early placement but she is clearly NOT at risk this week because of the big build up from the previous week. Double boot this week

Top 4: 4th of 4 --pimp spot (#3) --Jordin gets a third pimp spot in the top 12. Yeah, AI is totally fair. This is also where they sing two songs each.

Top 3: 1rst of 3-- yes first, but at this point they sing 3 songs each.

Top 2: sings 2nd of 2. Blake lets her sing second after he wins the coin toss. She was "only 17" and he knew the coronation song they wanted him to sing was meant for her and would really blow for him anyway (MTV interview, Dec. 07).

David A has already had 2 pimp spots. If he gets to sing last the week of Idol Gives Back (not this week, the next week) then we know the producers DO want him to be in the F4 and likely the F2.

I would LOVE for Michael to get the pimp spot the week of Idol Gives Back!!! Inspirational song night; hopefully good comments from the judges, 4 hour voting...we can hope!!!

Oh.... we are still hoping Michael will shine above the rest....
AND THAT WILL HAPPEN JUST HOPE AND SUPPORT HIM, HE CAN DO IT...I'M BELIEVING HE CAN.. ...LET'S BELIEVE..
