Full Version: Is All Press Good Press?
Michael Johns > Michael Johns > All About Michael Johns

So what do you think? Is all press good press? Be it negative or positive do you think the mere fact that a name is out there is a good thing ? It's all about the buzz that these contestants create,I think if they play their cards right even the negative can be helpful in promoting them.I know from my own life experiences that the negative always made me stronger. What are your thoughts on this, all answers appreciated !

No, all press is not good press. I know there is an old addage about PR but look at Elliot Spitzer and David Hernandez for just two recent cases.

I posted in another thread that TMZ had a blurb about Michael potentially stealing song from his former band but then the article disappeared. Why would they take it down? Was it proven false? I hope so.

So, in my opinion, it depends what the press is about. Wearing a goofy mascot outfit, pictures of you drinking with your buddies who tell TMZ what your fav chick pick up line was--harmless.

Stripping to nude in a well known gay bar hwere lap dances were commonplace? Too many people are turned off by that info.

Paying for hookers ...repeatedly...when you have been completely moralistic in your own career? Nope. Again, the exposure did not help him!

Michael is on a very big stage right now--one that plays all over the world. Wouldn't surprise me if supporters of other contestants tried very hard to find dirt on the contestants they thought stood in the way of their favorites.

You make some valid points Dusty ! I should have said moral issues aside, when I asked the question about negative press.I agree where moral issues are involved it's never a good thing.I simply meant reviews and opinions about a performance, stage presence or vocal issues.Nothing would surprise me either when it comes to others potentially trying to harm another person verbally.Unfortunate but true !

Hi Judy, I think negative press can hurt. I think there was a concerted negative press campaign vs. Taylor Hicks around the time of his album release that went on for months. I saw some of the same info in article after article that had to have come from the same source. That didn't stop his hard core fans from going to his concerts and buying his cd but there was definitely negativity created. I think part of it is the volume of it...remember AI is partly, or even mostly a popularity contest with singing. If you look at how little the singers actually sing it is funny! Less than 2 minutes! Sometimes a mere 99 seconds can decide whether they are going on to greater heights or not. Amazing. So anyway, the press really helps or hurts someone, especially cumulatively.
Judy
Thanks for your input Dusty ! It's nice to be able to share opinions with others ! Have a great night !
