You know back then when the show Rockstar: INXS was on I was always a HUGE JD Fortune fan, and we all know he won. I knew he was going to win from the very beginning, although some people liked Marty better. But in the end, JD was the perfect one for the job. He had the whole package, charisma and sex appeal.
Anyways, since I first saw Michael he always gave me that JD Fortune vibe. (Although I prefer MJ).
Lately, I've been thinking on the songs that JD did during the show and Michael would be amazing tackling some of those on AI. Of course, given the fact that the themes would make him able to make those choices..
Michael's appeal is his charisma, voice, stage presence and sexiness, just like JD. He has to play all of those in order to differentiate himself from the top contenders like Jason C, David C, David A. He has to use his weapons to stand out.
None of the others have that, not even David C ( he is a great rock singer, but IMO he lacks sex appeal and charisma).

Practically Michael could sing all of the INXS catalog and hit a home run, but the problem right now is the band doesn't clear their songs for AI which sucks.
Maybe there is a chance later on. I hope.
Michael said in a recent interview that his favorite INXS song was Never Tear Us Apart. That would be perfect for him too.

Michael's song choices will be shaped by the show's mentors and the Idol Gives Back week.
Randy made an interesting comment in an interview a couple of weeks ago--that the winner of AI needs to be able to sing anything well and that all of the previous winners had been able to sing anything. So AI doesn't want someone who can just sing one type of song well but sing well overall.
I have read that there will only be 4 mentors this year and Mariah Carey will be one of them--either mentoring the week of April 9 or 16th.
I have also read rumors of themes for the top songs on itunes, also, songs from the year you were born. I have also read the rumor of Dolly Parton being a mentor, and Fergie and Heart being on the Idol Gives Back show. Is Heart just performing or wil be they be mentoring? Will all the mentors this year be females?
Ryan said he will tell us the list of mentors this coming week. Frankly the rumored roster looks heavy on female mentors, ballad types of songs and that is geared more for Carly and David A imo.

Top 12 Mar 12 Beatles round 1 -- David H eliminated
Top 11 Mar 19 Beatles round 2
Top 10 Mar 26 Mentor?

he would sound great singing any of the songs JD sang on the show, if he was able to sing them, but knowing the themes they normally give, they probably wouldn't ever come up.

I know, that's the problem.
Based on the themes AI usually chooses, those songs will never come up for Michael, which is a shame.
Michael doing an INXS song like "Never Tear Us Apart" would probably give him the crown..
Let's just hope MIchael is able to find a way to stand out more and show his incredible range and performance skills.
